Spring is the time to detoxify By Ernst Winkler, DNM, MH.

Nature renews itself in the spring and so should we. While these days imported produce is available all winter long, we are still impacted by short, dark winter days that leaves us without sufficient sunlight. We spend more time indoors and are generally less active. These leads to a buildup of toxins in our system that need to be eliminated. There are many articles written on this subject:

North Americans contaminated with cancer-causing poisons reads an article – Tests find 45 0f 57 carcinogens on reporter’s blood by Chris Cobb of the Ottawa Citizen referring to the breast cancer diagnosis of Wendy Mesley the famous CBC anchor.

An environmental study in the National Post stated: Four MPs Test high for toxic chemicals – 61 pollutants found in bodies of four politicians.

A 454 page study by the Center of Disease Control in Atlanta, GA warns us of the alarming buildup of chemical cocktails in our bodies.

What to do?

There are herbal remedies that help us to cleanse our bodies of unwanted substances. For a simple spring cleanse dandelion root and greens as well as milk thistle which work particularly on the liver are always a good start.
Liver likes bitter substances in order to function well. Artichoke stimulates bile production and helps digestion.
Red clover helps to cleanse the blood. Horsetail flushes the kidneys and supplies the body with trace minerals particularly silica a catalyst for calcium absorption. Half a lemon in a glass of warm water first thing in the morning helps to regulate bowel movements and alkalizes the system. Beets are a rejuvenating food for gallbladder, liver and the bowels. Psyllium and freshly ground flax seeds provide extra fiber and keeps the bowels working well.
